Physical limitation

Understanding Physical Limits In dance, the body is pushed to move in ways that can be unnatural. Through this we discover our limitations and restrictions. To maximise our potential, we can work to our personal ability without pushing our physical boundaries to the point of injuries. Limitation’s occur physically in the type of joints we have, bone structure, and the length of our tendons (HSC DANCE, 2020). For example, the depth of the pliĆ© is dependent on the length of the Achilles which may be over time lengthened by a very small amount but is otherwise genetically set. Another example would be the range of turnout as this comes from the hip joint and how much rotation we have as an individual. To maximise the appearance of our turnout we can gently stretch the hips and build strength in the inner thighs to utilise the full potential of rotation.
